I agree, I was so angry that I could hardly think straight.  I couldn't believe that man would say that to ANYONE calling him about their check.

Wifey
This is one thing about our country that I do not like.  It seems that those serving our country seldom get the respect they deserve.  Regardless of what the problem was, where the heck does the unemployment office get calling Carl selfish??  He is anything other than that, giving years of his life to support the idiot behind the desk.

I'm glad you called the governor's office.

bel, one of our staff is going through an unemployment hassle right now
too (well, actually his wife)..through no fault of theirs..but the govt turns everything around and makes excuses for incompetence and being understaffed..the govt (be it U.S. or Canadian) is the selfish entity, not the people.....

hehehehehehe Strat
I was kind of thinking of just putting some antlers on him and letting Carl hunt him down...OK so that was less than kind of me.

Gotta love a friggin' incompetent bureaucrat.
Often it's best to visualize nice things. For example, imagine walking through a lovely, tree-lined garden full of beautiful flowers. Now imagine a bureacrat such as the one you write about here hanging feet first from each tree, twisting slowly in the lovely light breeze...

Betcha feel better already!

Humm..I don't know anyone who doesn't want things to go their way...
So I guess everyone is selfish! At least to that paper pushing toad!
Glad you got things cleared up!

Rich
I am sure there is but I don't believe needing to feed his family and pay his bills made my husband selfish or gave that man to right to call him such.

bel,
there must be a reason for being selfish at times.

Good for you! And congrats at getting things straightened out so quickly! I hate it when people screw up and then get an attitude when you have the nerve to complain! I hope the guy Carl was dealing with gets called on the carpet!

the man got away messing with the check but when he called Carl selfish I lost it.  Carl was on one phone with the jerk and I was on the other with the Governor's office.  Yeah, teach that man to piss me off LOL!

that man needs a lesson in how to communicate,
and if that doesn't work then a swift kick in his buttocks--shall I send Furby to do the job? ;-)

What was it that Shelly had to say at her kids performance??
YEE HAW!  The Governor's office called us back.  Carl's check is being mailed first thing in the morning.  Reminder to everyone...when you are having trouble with a Federal or State office remember they are not your last stop, call the Governor, Congress, Senate, whomever you need to call.

Youare right, to this man it was just a job...unfortunately his job is the difference between paying our house payment or light bill.  It appears it's going to be taken care of but it's sad that I had to call the Governor's office to get someone to do their job.

Actually, when you think about it, everyone wants things to go their way. I certainly do, but don't consider myself selfish.

There's one thing to keep in mind when dealing with bureacrats. Instances such as this is an aspect of your life, but it's just as aspect of their job. However, that is no excuse for rudeness or lectures on morality.

Offbeats
I really expect it to be fixed by the end of the day...funny thing happens when the powers that be discover there are bigger powers but it's a shame.  Carl hates taking unemployment and tries to work when he is laid off but if there isn't work, then we have to take the unemployment.  To be treated like he is begging for a handout makes it worse.

Wow
I guess that would make about 100% of the population selfish too then huh? Hope this mess gets straightened out soon bel..
