RedScribe, I'd say you need to fulfil the travel desire first. And while
you're travelling, write, even if it's just keeping a notebook for the duration. If you work your way through your travel, you might find that this is a life you really like, but if you return and want stability, why not try part-time working (to pay the bills) thus leaving yourself that important time, and more importantly the mind-space, to write. And always keep polishing your work and sending it out. Test out pieces here on Blogit too.
These are just my thoughts. I don't actually have the answers either as I'm still trying to achieve my own personal dream, which I'm on a better path with now, having set up my own schools workshops business.
Anyway, good luck in life, on your travels, and here on Blogit too.
