That's awesome, Julia..
Its difficult because I know that people fall on hard times and the like (as with the first woman that I mentioned) but I also have to think of it as a business transaction not a personal one and insist that they pay!

I've been lucky (if you can really call it that), in the last 13 years as a freelancer I've only gotten stiffed twice. I almost never work without a contract, but even then, you would be forced to take the matter to court to get your money. And what a pain that would be. Sometimes I think clients need and want the product, but they fail to really, *truly* see its value.

I agree Ariala...
I have contracts with a couple of people, but not all.
It's difficult to get a lot of these people to sign contracts, even legit people. You almost have to accept the risk as a freelancer, or you can't make any money. Frustrating!

That is frustrating...that's why they talk about writing up contracts, etc.
But I find I still don't do that, and even if I did, there's still no guarantee
