When one is too busy with life and the writing work, there is no time to write lyrical verse.

you don't seem to be having trouble, your poems are very good.

Julia.
Hi there, gal!  Although I have had several poems, sold and published in magazines, I write them only when life circumstances influences the need in me to do so.  Sometimes, there is a large gap of time between poems.  I hope you are doing well my friend and maybe one day you will be wanting to enjoy writing poetry again. Take care of yourself.

Re: EXTINGUISHED

You probably just got writers block for a while.  I know that I do that at times.  Not completely but blocked from writing one certain thing like sometimes, I can't write stories and can only write poems then again it is the right the opposite.  I couldn't come up with a poem if my life depended on it, and could only write a fictional on nonfiction story.  But as long as I can write something, I am pretty happy; I just love writing--Don't you?  I gather that you do from this post of yours.

start a notebook...
of ideas. Images, words you like, clippings from newspapers or magazines. Don't try to write a poem, just let it come back to you in its own time.

Julia, I know the feeling of having that creative flow forever abounding
when suddenly it all just seems to not be there...I remember losing the feel for writing for almost a year...I had to stumble , to push my way back into writing because even though I had lost the fire, as you so eloquently phrased it (you see, even in your post there is an element of that which you think gone), I knew that I had to get back into the mix or an emptiness surely would have consumed my spirit...it may be that you really have moved on from the poetic genre; it is entirely possible that you will resume the writing of poetry with a most prolific fervour. I believe there is much more soon to be drawn forth from your corner, my friend.

Julia...
Perhaps a poetry contest would spark a flame?

You may need something more to say
With me, too, there are times when the poems just burst out and other times when I feel like a carnival act and people are pushing me to write something for a gift or a card or something and you are sorry that people know you are a poet.

I had read somewhere that when Sir Walter Scott had writer's block, he would read something.

justi--
thank you very much, and I hope you are right. I'm going to go in search of a log right now!

troosha--
well, everything I've written is here. I suppose I could re-post but that tends to annoy people, lol.

Julia
You are such a natural writer I think your poetry fires are simply banked. They need shaking a bit and lay on another log or two. Be blessed.

Julia
I'd be interested in reading some of the poetry you did write.....

Ody--
well, I guess I can still hope that one day a spark might ignite. I'd hate to think that the fire is completely, irrevocably out.

That’s quite interesting as a similar thing happened to me.
Poetry just seems to occasionally burst forth. Of course there are other writers here that seem more apt at poetry than prose.
