The saying was old when I was a youngster back in the days when there were just 16 Major League Baseball teams and baseball was considered America's game. The NFL had just 12 teams in two conferences. There was no Super Bowl. The winners of each conference played in an NFL Championship game. As I recall it, there were also only 12 teams in the NBA and the NHL. The elaborate postseasons of today did not exist and the World Series outshone all of the other pro sports. Apple pie and baseball were both symbolic of traditional American values.

Alright, wait a minute here ...
We never played baseball or watched baseball, and ate apple pie very rarely. Are these sayings true, or have I been completely deceived by that Norm devil again?
