Even though you know a fair number of male nurses, bet the ranch that most of their colleagues are women. If you actually take a look at the percentage of women on the staffs of those hospitals, nursing homes, etc., that's how you get the proof of my point. What's surprising is that you'd think that men would be attracted to the pay, and the fact that you can leave the job behind at the end of the day unless you're a nurse practitioner or midwife (and you need to be on call to deliver babies). Nursing just flat-out pays better than most other jobs in health care (with the exception of medicine itself), especially now that hospitals have to compete for what few nurses there are out there.

I know quite a few male nurses. In this economically depressed area it is one of the better, more secure jobs. T
