Talion...
I don't overestimate my own role in the Internet world, either, but it's nice to know that we all have that kind of influence.

LOL RAME!
Believe it or not,
Time left itself open to just this sort of satire. It's the jokes that demean the importance of the award, not remarks like yours, that bother me.

Second only to the printing press, the internet has and will continue to have, the biggest, most profound influence on the literary world. While I certainly don't overestimate my microscopic role in this glorious moment, I'm proud to be a part of it.

kidnykid,
I just knew one day that I'd make it! I'm signing autographs for anyone who asks. I have a responsibility to my public! I want to thank my mom and my dad and my agent and my dog and my children and all those little people who helped me get to where I am.
Oh! I dropped my crown!

I agree!
It's a very empowering award, but you'd be surprised at how many people denigrate it, as if the very fact that so many of us received the award cheapened or devalued it somehow. I've heard people joking about the very commonness of the award, as if "everyone with Internet access/the ability and wherewithal to develop Internet content" made the award far too accessible to the common man.

Let's all celebrate our joint award. It's great news.
