P.P.S...to TAPS...
That's great that you know a family of Turnipseeds...such a wonderful name.  It would definitely be impossible to be a mean person with a name like that, don't you think? "That jerk, Turnipseed, why I oughtta..."   See, it just doesn't work does it?

Thanks so much for all the comments...

There are few things more inspiring than hearing from people who enjoyed something you wrote, so my sincerest thanks all around...and I'm actually working on the illustrations as we speak so hopefully, Mr. Martin and Miss Mary will one day be on a bookshelf near you.  I'm fairly new to blogit and so far it's been a blast...I look forward to reading all your posts too...thanks again...

P.S. I just finished reading up on Don Turnupseed who was driving the car that hit James Dean. I do love trivia so thank you for sharing that, too...

Oh, and I'm a "her"...the "E" is for Elizabeth...

love your poem! And it reminded me of something: remember James Dean, the 'rebel' and heartthrob of the 50's? He was killed in an accident involving another driver, whose name was Turnupseed, with a 'u'...

eperryday, I love it.  I actually know a family of Turnipseeds.  When I first met Peggy, (another nurse) and saw her name tag on her scrubs, I burst out laughing.  I thought it was some kind of a joke.  We became good friends and I love the name.

Every now and then a pleasant surprise will pop up at Blogit.
You, dear sir or ma'am, have just submitted one of those surprises.  Very, very, very nice job with this poem and entry.
