Blanche...
Sorry to hear that.  I'll bet if there was a national study done it would show that many relationships don't weather the holidays...the added stress being the culprit.  Good luck, fight the good fight.

A. Norseman, I love this.  I have one of these people in my life.  He is one of my nephews.  He is the jolliest, most loveable person at our family parties.  On the way to the parties he stops at whatever store is open and buys anything and everything in sight.  He brings in a big red cloth bag filled with these things and sets it down in the middle of the room and tells everyone to take a present.  HAHAHA   One of my favorites of his choices years ago is an Elvis w/guitar clock where the hips and legs go back and forth like a pendulum with each tick.   Parties are never the same without him and his hearty laugh.

Interesting view

I've never thought about how others would respond to a bachelor during the holidays.  I've always had a different perspective of the term bachelor, rather simpleminded I suppose.  I've always viewed being single as temporary and bachelorhood as a permanent choice.

I had too much to say about another perspective on the season though, so I've written a post instead of a further comment. Your post was enlightening regarding the term though, thank you for the enlightenment.

Holy_Grail...
Thanks, it's refreshing to know that men don't have a monopoly on bachelorhood.

You know, it's pretty much the same for me, and I'm a woman.  I love that I don't know how to cook, so I just get fed. A lot.  A 37-year-old single woman who  never had kids and doesn't know how to cook is pretty much a bachelor.  But, I did help my Mom clean up a little on T'Giving since the game hadn't started yet.
