Here are the answers :::
- The 2 types of roofs are flat and pitched
- Asphalt shingles are the most common type. Also, wood shingles and shakes, asbestos cement shingles, clay tiles and slate shingles.
- A saddle or cricket is a raised structure placed behind a chimney to prevent debris and snow from piling up.
- To prevent leakage around any vent or pipe that projects from the roof, use metal flashing sealed with asphalt cement.
- Efflorescence is a white mineral like substance that forms on chimneys. Though it is common on new brickwork, its presence on an older chimney usually means that water is getting inside the chimney.

- What is a saddle or cricket and what is it used for? hell if I know, Carl is sleeping I can't ask him, I only did one roof but if I had to venture to guess it would be that shingles you put where the two sides of the shingles meet and it's done the way it is done to prevent water and other yucky stuff from getting under the shingles.
- What should be done to prevent leakage between a vent stack and the roof? silicone caulk
- What is efflorescence and where is it usually found? I can only guess this has to do with office buildings and such because it has something to do with water causing concrete to weaken, I don't remember the details it's been a while since I worked with concrete but it's why we treated our concrete on bridges, etc.... homes don't normally have concrete on the roof so it's gotta be office buildings.
