What I never understand about stories like this is
Why weren't they better prepared? Why didn't they take warm blankets and food along? If they live in that region, they had to know that their journey could be dangerous.
It was very sad.

So was I. Now it turns out some vandalists broke the lock on the gate that alerted drivers of the closed road!
