Marie-Claire--- A "possum fur" hat? What, pray tell, is that? Possums over
here are scraggly looking things with not much hair. I ate "possum puffs" once at a wild game dinner. Can't really recommend those either.

Mademoiselle--- My fireplace kept me warm, but really couldn't cook on
it. (I'll be prepared to do that the next time.) I survived on peanut butter sandwiches, cereal, and fruit.

Jazwolf, what a chilling tale!
Hope you had lots of blankets and wooly socks. What you need is those lovely NZ sheepskins, sleepers, bed underlays, you cannot beat this! complete with possum fur hats, socks and wooly undies. You would be all set! I hope you have a fireplace. Modern society relies so much on electricity, being "powerless" is no fun. It happens every winter in the South Island but those hardy souls seem to cope very well and are prepared for such contingency.
You must have had your dear little doggie friend at your feet.
blablabla....

How did you survive for 2+ days without power?
Did you have a backup generator?
The storm missed my little corner of the world, altogether ... which is too bad, actually, because I was really looking forward to building an iceman.
Isn't it funny how one minute life can be such a struggle,
and the next minute, you're just driving real fast,
swerving back and forth across the road?
