They are, scoop. Rutgers was a shocker this year, though.

What the dingbats don't see is that it is more lucrative with a playoff
system. The games can still be corporately sponsored (which is where the money is anyway). The traditional Bowl system is gone and the BCS Bowl system has many flaws. Go to a playoff system and let it go.
By the way, Drew, it ain't rambling if you're making a point and you, friend, were doing just that.

Saul
If ever there was a time for a play-in game, this would be it. Of course, with college football there can really never be a perfect way to decide on a national champion. Clearly Ohio State deserves to play for the title. If they were to play Michigan again, the better team would have to win twice to get the crown and the possiblity of a team that did not win its own conference title could take the National Championship. Each season needs to have a flex-system that would allow for the most rational bracket given the circumstances. For instance, this year number two (Florida) and number three (Michigan) would have a play-in game for the right to take on OSU. But in a year like 2005, the BCS worked out perfectly with USC and Texas the only unbeatens playing the greatest championship game ever. If there is a season that ends with three major unbeatens then it becomes more difficult, but there is a way to have it played out on the field instead of how it worked when Auburn was left out a few years back.
Sorry for rambling. I think it is all academic as long as college presidents smell dollars the old fashioned way!

They have exams? Hell, R.I., with all the hype and money around college
sports, I figured they'd've gone to a compleat tutorial system by now.

I'm with you on the Michigan/Florida analysis. The more I think on it, the
more I lean toward the rematch. And as for WVU, I do believe that Rutgers really had a better team than most people realize (of course I'm biased), but it does show the parity evident in the Big East.
Oh, and I love your little pink quote. Sounds like Steven Wright. Who, pray tell?

The problem is ... Florida clearly has the better resume, while Michigan is clearly the better team.
It's quite a conundrum.
I was surprised West Virginia didn't win by more (presuming the debacle against Cincy had let all the air out of Rutgers' balloon).
I wonder how USC's loss affects the chances that Pete Carroll will be reunited with Matt Leinart, next year.
For me, the worst thing about having King Kong walk down your street
is that kids could look up and see giant genitalia.
