It is possible that we demand teaching manuals because we get them for our appliances. It is also possible that school districts issuing such manuals are trying to avoid legal liability (as in, lawsuits and potential huge judgments).

Perhaps this trend toward manuals and specific instructions in teaching stems from our technological influences. I think that if I teach (under whatever circumstances I have the opportunity to do so), I shall try to avoid falling into any nonsensical methods brought on by the new social influences of machine oriented inventions.
