Obviuosly Atlanta looks better organised than The Capitols

Right you are, Drew. I totally agree. Rough checking and fighting are an
integral part of the game, while the game is in play.  The League did right by suspending and fining those responsible for the brawling in the Thrashers/Capitols game, but I believe they should have fined the head coach for the Capitols a helluva lot more because there is no way that those three fresh players were not sent into that rink to fight.  It was just too obvious.  Puck hits ice, Capitols hit Thrashers.  Come on!!  And Brashear and crew needed to be fined on top of their suspensions, as well as the Atlanta captain for his instigation later.  Suspensions are okay (they do lose money for not playing), but a fine hits them harder.

Saul....
...as a die-hard hockey fan, I have watched as the sport has risen to a serious 4th option for sport fans, fallen into a ratings nightmare for ESPN causing it to dump hockey all together,  to what we have now, a confused ice-capade.  I am one who argues that fighting is an important part of the game of hockey at the NHL level.  I do not believe that the nonsensical end of game "chippiness" can be tolerated.  As I know you are aware, the idea of fighting in hockey is for the teams to "police" themselves.  The ability to protect a skill player against thugish barbary is important.  What happens with a situation like the Atl v. Wash game is the epitomy of the argument non-hockey fans give for ignoring the sport entirely.  The attempts of the league to do whatever they can to increase ratings immediately are wiped away by its complete lack of awareness of why people do not watch the game.  Fighting at the drop of the puck is nonsense and should be treated as a 3rd man in.  Immediate misconduct for anyone participating.  Suspension for insitigating.  No fan is impressed with that, no team is helped by it.

Thanks for talking hockey!!!!

I love the game. My boys are asking about playing either ice hockey or
roller blade hockey.  I can't believe they're even into it.  The only other sport I've ever seen them interested in is basketball (and a little football with the neighbors' kids).  They're video game addicts, mneme.  I don't play at all, but they more than make up for my absence.

I can't comment on the game, it's a long time since I watched any hockey, but I so enjoyed the two or three seasons when my son played squirts (if I've remembered it right) and peewees.  That seems a lifetime ago now, living 'down under' where the seasons are back to front and ice rinks are a dying breed.
