There are certain things I can compromise on, but my belief in my divine creator is not on the table...I respect others who worship otherwise and I shall not change mine for any theologian...

Mountain_Climber, Isn't that the same thing that the Muslims are basically wanting--a Muslim kingdom on earth where all Christians have been irradicated or subdued? This Camp person says "The most basic Christian commitment … is that we say we believe in the Lordship of Jesus. But, if we claim that, how can a Muslim or Jew trust us, if we say Jesus is the Lord of all Lords?"
This is a true statement. What Camp either does not understand (or understands only too well) is that without that belief a person is a Christian in name only and without the power of the Holy Spirit. It is not important if a Muslim or Jew trusts me. What is important is that a Muslim or Jew trusts Jesus as Lord of his life. I am aware that is not likely to happen, but it does at times, often enough that it is well worth the effort of sharing the gospel.
Will I let go of some of my beliefs? Maybe, but definitely not that one.

Bahskar -- Why should all the responsibility be on the Christian
religion to compromise?

I think the opening lines hits the crux of the matter. “To live peacefully with Muslims and Jews, or for that matter, with people of any other religion, Christians, must put aside the notion that their faith requires the creation of a Christian kingdom on Earth”. Very true, Otherwise it is bondage!

the responsibility
should not reside solely with one religion.
and yet responsibility requires that each individual live his/her religion in a manner that others admire.
parable of the ten virgins
the ones with oil were the ones preparing for today. the ones without were expecting a coming of the lord.
the oil is light. be the light of the world now. the darkness is here and now.
christ, salvation, is living well, doing for others, sacrificing for others.
it is in the living that christ is expressed, not in the exclusion of others.
christ is not exclusive to Christians; rather, it is the domain of anyone of any religion who recognizes it.

Exactly, as Jesus commands all of us to do, Mountain Climber, love
anger is divisive and I am working on my own.

Blanche, Yes, I can, but that does not mean that I have to compromise
my faith -- I will love my neighbor as myself, no matter what color, race or creed, but I will also love my God will all of my heart, soul, mind and strength!

MC, can you not accept that other faiths have different ideas of God?
