and thoughtful reflection, at what he could have lost! (At this dinner was his two children, and two grandchildren -- all you have said they would not claim him as their father, if he divorced their mother, and married the other woman)!

nice that he came back! As for seeing the years in his face, I think you were having a bit of that 're-union syndrome': we notice that everybody looks so much older...
