You had a great evening despite those men
Maybe some men just can't understand that women can have a good time without them.

I don't want to sound cliche, but Dr. Phil says.......lol

But I do respect the man, he leads a God based life and he's in a good marriage.  His wife just published a book; something about speaking from the heart.  The man said, in a recent interview, "I am a firm believer in on-line dating services."  He is also affiliated with Match.com as a consultant.  I know it is a route many who have busy lives, have taken. I also believe this to be a good tool when utilized with honesty and discretion.

I wouldn't judge those in bars; men or woman but believe alcohol is a smoke-screen numbing truth in order to escape intimacy (not sexual intimacy but the ability to share who we truly are, uncovering our depth, our ability to connect on a spiritual level) with others.

I'm in my late forties, only married eight of my 30 dating years; single parent, full-time job, part-time businesses; have an extrememly full life.  I tend to be content in my circumstances, but have always found the time to have a man in my life; 'psuedo-relationships' is the term used by psychologists; I refer to them (now shamefully) as 'Mr. Right-for-now' but grew weary, wanting a more spiritually based, ever-after, deeper love and committment in a relationship so I dropped out of the need about three years ago and went on a self-identifying sabatical; what we Christians refer to as a more intimate walk with God.

So as not to sound preachy, I will avoid offering any advice from the Word, but to put His advice into secular terms; First come to terms with the true desires of your heart, utilizing the gifts given to you (your talents), use those gifts and talents to benefit others and those of like-minds will be brought unto you......strive to learn what love truly is, if you wish ltrue love in return. If you continue to do what you've always done, you will get what you've always gotten.  If you strive for more of your true self, those that are true will be presented to you.  Something the secular world refers to as Karma or the laws of the universe.

Christians believe God knows the desires of our heart and He's promised us those desires, from His words; seek first the kingdom and all things will be added unto you. He's refering here to bringing the truth into the light.

There are a lot of good secular books regarding self-identifying; Escape from Intimacy, Woman, Sex and Addiction (having nothing to do with any personal addiction, but in men or woman using sex to entice others), Reinventing Your Life, etc.

There are also a lot of biblical reference books explaining the above subjects directly from the Word.  The Bible is filled with advice regarding men, woman, sex, relationships, etc.

The first question I had regarding men, sex and relationships, I prayed on and studied on for about two years before the answer was given to me.  The answer was; spirit is not of gender.  My attitude towards men changed, thereby changing who I am.

Right on the money
Those are hilarious- and they sound strangely similar to some experiences I've had before. I know what you mean about online dating- been there, done that. I'm from Houston, originally, by the way- it's comforting when I hear of other writers from the Lone Star State.
