In this section, as you will see, I try to keep things simple. My intent is to help the non-technical reader understand what "power" really is, and where it really comes from. At the same time, I try to allay many readers' fears about things nuclear. I started this process in Chapter 3, and continue it here. In effect, Ch 3 laid the foundation for this chapter.

conductors and resisters -- that's what you are looking for h ere
certain metals and combinations resist the free flow of electricity and thus generate heat in the metal -- also create rheostats.
