I don't know of any atheists who care about this
The Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays things is fully a Christian issue.  All the atheist I know wish each other Merry Christmas because they choose to.  For us Christmas is not religious in nature because we chose to not make it so.

It is up to the individual retailers to decided how they wish to express themselves.  Honestly, looking at basic business concepts using Happy Holidays make a whole lot more sense than Merry Christmas since it does cover so much more ground and includes all people, no matter their beliefs.

Happy Holidays is about inclusion and brotherhood, showing general respect for all. Merry Christmas actually falls short of that.

Blanche, As a Christian, you should rejoice as greatly in
this decision, as you did in the Democrats gaining power in Congress, after all both is traditional -- just kidding about the Democrats!

MountainClimber, with all due respect, "Merry Christmas" is a religious

greeting.  Christmas, which you and I celebrate as Christians, is the birth of Jesus Christ, (or at least the closest date the church can figure).  Happy holidays covers Hannukah, New Year's Eve and Day, and just about everything else.

It's not a war or persecution on us Christians. We're still in the majority.  It's just a sound business decision.  Sam Walton's not alive, so his heirs get to run the business as they see fit.

Blanche, Wal-Mart will never have eliminated Merry Christmas
if Walton was still alive -- Merry Christmas is not a religious greet per se, it is a tradtional understanding that brings brightness to dark eyes, faith to troubled souls, love to broken hearts like God Bless America did to us all after 9/11!

MountainClimber, I feel compelled to point out that it is Walmart and other

businesses who choose not to alienate their non-Christian customers who CHOSE to greet customers using "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas".  A smart business decision, imho.

No one is forcing them not to say "Merry Christmas". they are still free to greet customers as they please.  As savvy businesspeople, like Sam Walton know,it's not worth alienating the 10% or so of non-Christian customers. What's wrong with that?  Not everybody is Christian.
