Okay. I would like the URL of the website. I wouldn't mind looking further into her book.

It is a disease. I just wish my mother would realize that she can be healed. But first she needs to recognize that she has the disease.

I am sorry that things are not better between you and your mother. You
seem to handle it as well as could be expected. So was that guy who
proposed good looking? ;-)

You have my sympathies
You might want to look up the book title Getting Them Sober, by a licensed therapist named Toby Rice Drews. Although I don't endorse her belief in Al-Anon or other 12-step programs, many of the things she says about alcoholism might help you deal with your mom. I can even send you Drews' website privately, if you want. I've found a lot of Drews' advice helpful in dealing with smokers, too, believe it or not - so many of her clients have lived with abusive alcoholics. (I have some questions as to whether some of those alcoholics get drunk to justify losing control and abusing their spouses, or whether they become abusive only when drunk.)

That's a great try, Jemmie. Keep it up!
It's difficult to grapple with the fact that alcoholism is a disease

Very small steps
Jemms, it will be impossible to forget the past but maybe there is a chance to have some tiny bit of future with her. It could be that she's realizing that she's lost out on a relationship with a fabulous woman and trying to make an effort to get sober.
J's advice is wise, keep an open mind and protect your heart a little from being disappointed.
Take care

It's hard not to let the past interfere with the present.
I understand completely.
