Now, SlyCy, it's against the law to execute retarded people in this country

Now, let's impeach Bush and execute him which is also needed.

Could be, Parnell. It is hard to say. Personally, I'm all for it, simply
for his crimes against humanity.  As for a reason for a liberal patriotic bandwagon effect, that is an interesting idea, considering that most liberals are against the death penalty...

You got that right, ariel...

Saul

I can't help feeling that American Liberals are using this verdict as a way of getting back on the patriotic bandwagon.

The general liberal line seems to be 'Sure, we opposed the war, but don't worry about that, cause we hate big, bad, hairy Saddam like you guys. Stuff legal procedure. Bugger the fact that they kept shooting his defence lawyers. Lets fry him. Oh come on, come on guys...'

As Blanche said it's a lot of moralising crap. The verdict was not a good thing, because the war shouldn't have been fought - and the troops shouldn't have been there in the first place.

Misdirection, Blanche, was what it was. It was not a shining moment.

No verdict, food4thought, is met with unanimous approval by such a massive
audience.  But, in the end, the only people who need to approve are the Iraqis, and therein lies the problem...

Well, that is not as bad as Reagan leaving the American hostages in Iran
languishing while he cut a back alley deal to release them on his Inauguration Day, that one really steams me still.

Blanche, they'll appeal it to death. They'll sit on it. They'll hem and
haw.  He's far too valuable a whipping boy alive than dead.  Alive, he's a walking model of the ridiculous.  Dead, he loses his value to the Iraqi government and becomes a source of martyrdom for ex-Baathists and Sunni insurgents.  I see him languishing in prison for quite some time...

Saul...

One thing for sure, they don't need anymore martyrs over there.  And this is just a thought, not an excuse by any means, but maybe he ruled with such an iron hand because (as we now see) he had to.  Of course he overdid it by several orders of magnitude and deserves to pay whatever price the Iraqis ask.  And if Bush is so good at orchestrating world events (even though that flies in the face of the claims he can't do anything right) wouldn't he just avoid the Sadam trial and end the whole mess over there?

Even this verdict, which is sorely needed can't make everyone happy.

saul, two points I strongly agree with, the martyr and an end
to an element of tyranny. Great post, sir!

Saul Relative, Why do you think that Saddam won't be hanged, other than

the obvious ploy of making him a martyr, this Administration doesn't have much political savvy, why now?

And of all politcal leaders, he was bad, but that is so obviously not the reason we are there: to 'liberate" the Iraqi people. Puh-leez. There are dictators, horrible as they are in Africa, are sending troops in there?  I wish the moralists would get off that bandwagon. We're not buying it anymore.
