Nautikos, this sounds absolutely scrumptious.  I think I might fix that for Thanksgiving instead of Turkey and dressing.  Wow.  It must be beautiful to look at.

Mich,
Enjoy! And one of these days you have to tell us about your Blogit name, which gives me a writer's cramp...

I'm not sure which is worse, Nautikos, watching the pot boil or stirring it
I'm linking to your recipe here for my birthday menu, if you don't mind. If you do, let me know, and I'll remove it.  Come by for cake later.

wow, if a salad can be called sensual, then this would be it...

I think it involves all senses to consume this work of art.  Must be divine...

oh, and I love Gerwurztraminer...

Damn. That sounds terrific!
I'lll try this next weekend -- that'll give me time to find all the specialty stuff.

Nautikos, yes to skimming, and yes to avoiding poltiics, when one can
although that particular stew pot is heating up for day after tomorrow. I'll have to buy some rice vinegar.

posted by Blanche. on November 5, 2006 at 4:49 PM | link to this | reply

Blanche.

...you been skimming again? I did specify Japanese rice vinegar...

As far as 'getting into politics' is concerned, you may have noticed that I keep my comments on US politics to a minimum, I am even bored with our Canadian version, for the most part...

posted by Nautikos on November 5, 2006 at 2:27 PM | link to this | reply

I saw the comment, Naut, he's at work, and I'll turn the computer over to

him in the evening, as I usually do.  Olive oil does not sound very Japanese, the canola might work better, be more bland, I suppose, what do you think of rice vinegar, in keeping with the Japanese vinaigrrette theme.

And, yes, I'lll get back into politics, I'm having fun right now, good, clean fun, but fun all the same. You should join us, punning is fun.

posted by Blanche. on November 5, 2006 at 2:17 PM | link to this | reply

Blanche,

you might try canola oil Actually, you can also try olive oil, although I have never used it in this recipe. But I think canola would be a good substitute.

BTW, I looked at the Prof's blog. Good post! I also left a comment, of course...

posted by Nautikos on November 5, 2006 at 2:14 PM | link to this | reply

Naut, I am saving this, and since it's my birthday tomorrow, I'm splurging.
What can I use in place of peanut oil, though, the Professor is allergic.

That's good to know, Nautikos, I won't say "I'd never snitch", (never say
never, is another motto of mine), but I'd think long and hard about it, say if they were cheating or about to.

he's back? That's nice! I'll certainly take a look. BTW, in reality I never snitch on my friends, it's one of my core concepts...

So, if you feel you must, Nautikos, tell MG anything you like, I have

nothing to hide from him, he knows me pretty well, and, although we have our moments when, like all couples we have a difference of opiinion, we're pretty solid.  Here's his link:

that is expensive! I only spent 90 cents each for them yesterday, and that's our puny Canadian cents...

posted by Nautikos on November 5, 2006 at 12:22 PM | link to this | reply

Well, I hear Canada has a few other good ideas, too, Naut,
the health care system for one, which you've recently become expert in, and who has provided you with Sheri's services, lol Something to be thankful for, eh?

posted by Blanche. on November 5, 2006 at 12:22 PM | link to this | reply

I haven't priced them recently, Naut, probably $1 or $2 each.
it's not really in the budget right now, although occasionally I splurge.  As a core concept, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you", while not technically in the Bible, seems to be another good core concept.

the rice wine, the . . . .  OK, you get the drift, I fear my taste is too "commonfolk" for such high fallutin' ingredients!
