Do you see Bill Maher's HBO show over there?
The opening skit last night was done like a mini-documentary (or a really brutal campaign ad). Began with a flash or two of Madonna's interview on Oprah about her adoption of an African orphan child, followed by Angelina Jolie's and a couple other shots of celebs with children as "accessories."
Then came scenes of a day-care worker walking down a rutted grubby street with a dozen little orphan kids. The voice-over was a plug for Halliburton, the text I remember was something like, with all the celebs adopting orphans you may be worried there will be a shortage. Halliburton is working for the American way of life, ensuring that there will continue to be a ready supply -- or words to that effect.
I imagine some shit will hit the HBO fan over that. I suppose some would find the humor in that bit, but it was too damn true to make me smile. I just got that kicked in the gut feeling.
Hope all's well with you. :)
