Thanks Food4th....I think there are a FEW people with allergies..
But most of these guys are just wusses who are scared of needles...LOL! I'm glad you're prepared.

PF...
Absolutley.  I have Asthma and am taking Enbrel shots for arthritis, so I can't afford to get the flu.  Not getting the shots is like saying you know someone who knows someone whos aunt knew someone who's dog knew someone that was saved from injury by not wearing a seat belt.  However, there could be those who have allergies (to the flu shots, not seat belts) and that would be a valid reason.

Oh boy Star....
You guys just keep coming up the excuses...lol!

Hey Passion, don't beat me up, I haven't taken flu short because
I can't tolerate it, but I give flu shot, because I care about them.

That's great Babe! Sorry to hear about your relative though.
I've heard of that happening before...it is indeed painful. She should have sued the doctor.

Good for you Bandana...I'm pretty healthy too.
I simply hate the flu though.

HI there,
I have a very weak immune system so I avoid flu shots. I got one a couple of years back and it made me very sick. To add insult to injury, I still got flu twice that year afterwards.

posted by fionajean on October 24, 2006 at 3:00 AM | link to this | reply

I got a flu shot for the first time last year.  It didn't make me sick.  I had a relative who got one and it must have hit a nerve or something because her arm ached for a year.  Hard.

posted by babe_rocks on October 23, 2006 at 11:57 PM | link to this | reply

I never get flu shots, because I rarely get sick.
I tried to get sick several times before, because I wanted to skip school... it never worked. Sometimes having a healthy body is such a bother!

posted by bandanafish on October 23, 2006 at 9:41 PM | link to this | reply

Already got it. My Dr. insisted.

Hope your 'friend' on the elevator didn't give you the flu.

I've heard that too, Lustor...As I said I'm very sorry about your mom.
Who knows? It could be as you say, but mostly those type  rumors and things are just excuses people use because they don't like shots.

posted by Passionflower on October 23, 2006 at 8:55 PM | link to this | reply

Passionflower
I disagree, she didn't want the shot and my brother and the doc suggested it. that as far as I know was the first time she ever had one and in 8 months she was dead and it started with the flu and then it went into pneumonia.  And people always tell you they got sick worse than if they hadn't had the shot

Shelly....excuse me while I go throw up....
I think you better revise your halloween costume -

I'm sorry about your mom, Lustor...but alot of that stuff you hear

posted by Sunnybeach7 on October 23, 2006 at 8:19 PM | link to this | reply

the flu
Guess I don't have common sense as I feel that is what caused my mom to decline very fast, a lot of people get sicker with the shot then they do the flu itself, you wont see me getting it, nor a real small child or a really old person

posted by lustorlove on October 23, 2006 at 8:13 PM | link to this | reply

You're alot of things Shelly...
But "innocent" damn sure ain't one of them!

Okay Blanche, but I'm writing down the names of all you guys

Who keep saying the same ole bullshit.

So I can go, "Na, na, na" whenever you get sick.

posted by Passionflower on October 23, 2006 at 7:12 PM | link to this | reply

I'm not convinced that it even is a better option, Passionflower, the study
that I read said that the Center for Disease Control can only guess at which strains of flu are going to be the most prevalent for the year.  Like I said, I'll let the old folks, the AIDS patients and the young kids have mine, since they're more at risk of getting pnumonia if complications develop and take my own chances.

I haven't had it in a few years.

posted by Blanche. on October 23, 2006 at 7:05 PM | link to this | reply

Oh well, Sunny...whatever works for you.

posted by Passionflower on October 23, 2006 at 6:55 PM | link to this | reply

Blanche - that argument doesn't make any sense.
The flu shot feels like a pin prick and last about 3 seconds. The flu feels like an army marched over you trampling you into the dirt. You can't even raise your head. You can't eat or sleep - You want to DIE for days on end.

posted by Passionflower on October 23, 2006 at 6:54 PM | link to this | reply

Passion...I don't get that sick.
Even when others around me are deathly ill, I may have just a sore throat.  I don't believe in getting sick from other people.

posted by Sunnybeach7 on October 23, 2006 at 6:54 PM | link to this | reply

Ha, ha Sunny...I'm writing that down somewhere so I can play it
Back to you when you get sick as a dog...  woof-woof!

I like my odds, Passionflower, I still say they're better without it.
From what I've read, they need them for people with compromised immune systems more, so I won't be depriving some elderly, HIV or other immunosuppressed person of theirs, who could get a life-threatening infection.  I'm pretty danged tough, and healthy.  It's all this peasant blood, Irish/Russian/American mutt that I am.
