I like the way you think, New Yorker in Sicily. I'm all for it. Draft the
legislation and let's put it to a vote.

child molestors should be given two choices...
Either be shot to death by the victim or the victim's family, or be someone's bitch in prison for life. I see no other solution. Someone who ruins a child for life does NOT deserve to be understood - nor do they deserve to live comfortably in jail at taxpayer's expense.

No, Straightforward. Most pedophilic behavior is cyclical, taught through

the trauma of the act itself, perpetuated by the traumatic imprint.  However, sexual urges and desires are a result of hormonal and chemical reactions and, in some respects, we are born with such.  Still, these can be controlled by the brain, other outlets can be explored.  Shunting the procreative urge is what sets us above rabbits and dogs.  Otherwise, people would be dropping breifcases and bags to fornicate in the streets.  Pedophiles do not shunt these urges, no more than a rapist shunts his (there is a connection there).

But do I rule out that we are born with the aberrant proclivities toward sex that can sometimes result in pedophilia (or rape)?  No.  The foundation for it all exists within the individual, in the way we feel and the way we think and how we control both.

I'm in agreement with you, ladychardonnay. Those who defy social laws
and break those laws, especially those laws that protect us against the dangerous elements of our society, do not deserve luxuries and considerations.  They are only guaranteed humane treatment.  Other than that, while they're waiting for the clock to run out, they deserve and should get nothing.

Are we somewhere trying to say that paedophilia is something that a person
is born with?

Cyclical behavior patterns engendered by trauma have their own
perpetuation system, RAME.  Therapy can be effective in dealing with and possibly halting the cycle, but the problem must be dealt with before an act of pedophilia occurs.  Otherwise...

I'm not advocating pre-emptive sentencing, Blanche, unless it's blatantly
and clinically obvious that he's a danger to children.  I am advocating sentencing for life, monitoring being an option.  Locking them up keeps them from hurting another child.  Until we understand the brain better, pre-emptive medicating and psychological restructuring will have to wait.  Until then, lock them up once they've been convicted.  No deals, no plea bargains, no time off for good behavior.  (By the way, the same goes for murderers.)

Saul, virtually seconds after I posted on a similar topic
you posted this from a slightly different POV. I covered pedophilia, from it's history within the Catholic Church and now as it is being tied to the Mark Foley case.

Saul_Relative,

Good post!  The shame of it is that many of those children who have been molested then turn out to be molesters themselves.  I don't understand that, but it is a fact.

Saul Relative, pedophiles are scum, there is no disputing that, I believe

And I whole-heartedly concur that these wolves need to be kept out of the chickenhouse.    I am not in favor of "pre-emptive" jail sentences, because the legal precedents set in this trigger-happy Administration, which is already itching to expand police powers (and has) make me very, very nervous.

Still, I believe monitoring is not a bad option. If anybody should get the chip implanted, it should be pedophiles.
