It is not about prestige...
When John Paul II reduced the number of miracles required it was because he realized that with our modern technology and science it would be easier to spot something that is unexplainable by the laws of nature. Besides, our world is bereft of heroes nowadays. If pop culture is an indication, the number of superheroes has multiplied quickly AFTER World War II. The Church is simply pointing out that there are great human beings if one only knows where to look. Remember too that John Paul II introduced the idea of humanity's saints.

Thanks, Friar-Tuck for the information, I read about these
Beatifications since they happened at the same time as the canonization of Saint Theodora Guerin our first Indiana official saint. Her life was certainly a difficult one. She reminds me of Catherine of Siena and Joan of Arc with her ability to stand up to those who attempted to stop God's work on earth. God bless, Padre!  faholo

I think the last few Popes have been beatifying way too many people, actually.

They are taking all the prestige out of it!

In the old days, you had to be really, really pious. Plus, perform (at least) two miracles. And good ones, too (like curing the sick, or healing a leper) ... no silly stuff.

We tend to scoff at the beliefs of the ancients.
But we can't scoff at them personally, to their faces,
and this is what annoys me.
