Corbin_Dallas, I noticed that you were missing. I see you came back with a vengeance. I read your political post this morning even though I don't think I commented.

TAPS, crabapple/jalapeno jelly with cream cheese on a belly, sounds divine

(and I should play some Freddy Fender "Until the next tear drop falls" here, too, it's raining, so it seems fitting).

Troosha, this day can roll anywhere it wants to (cold and wet and dreary) as long as I have my fuzzy blanket and reclining chair and some Freddy Fender tear drops falling (he passed away yesterday) alternated with my blogging and hot coffee.

Blanche, what I really want to make is a crabapple/jalopeno jelly. My jalopenos are bright red and hot as fire and the jalopeno/raspberry jelly is all gone. You haven't had good jelly until you've had a jalopeno sweet/hot combo on a bagel and cream cheese.

do something, anything, just do it
I loved your post. I am so much the same way, finding it hard to be inside on a pretty day, especially if I am able to get out and do something. I stay crazy busy most of the time and go nowhere without at least three things to do with me. Productiveness or OCD, oh well, get things done and worked on anyhow. Have a thing for crab apple trees; they are so pretty to look at, and I have made jelly out of them from trees at the local McDonald's because they were beckoning me so. lol I really have. In fact, about 130 jars once. It is so funny you mention that and have the pic, because they are beckoning now and I am ill and working and parenting and cannot get to the task this time. Each day I go by the trees, I wish that for a brief time I could clone myself, God help us all! Just to make preserves out of those damned beautiful crab apples. When I did that before, the product was consumed at home, given to family and friends as gifts, donated to homeless soup kitchens, and sold for a tiny bit of cash. I am much the same about situations I see as unfair, and my most recent post of Friday called Life in Words and Pictures (tie me up and burn me down!) is about an issue of ethics that came up in my ethics class. I would very much like for you to comment, any comment, just comment. lol Would love your feedback. Thanks, Lisa.

Wonderful post, Taps..
I feel the insistence of time quite keenly these days, and every day spent being unproductive is a waste for me. I accept the odd hurdle, so long as I can get back on track, and life is too short to be too busy for leisure time. Of course there are all sorts of ways of being productive! - even sitting on a blanket in dappled shade and just taking it easy is productive.. restoring equilibrium.

Good idea, well in the past two days
I have been to the farmers' market, baked and frozen short pastry,
baked a lemon cake, cleared the freezer, sat out on the deck and read.
Am limited somewhat by fly and tendonitis and so had to pass up a visit
to an art gallery and a movie. Now I am going to grade papers and
prepare my class for next week.

taps, sound advice... so what did you do?.... sit at the computer to write
about wasting time at the computer... there is some irony in this.
I love reading your posts, you write so beautifully, tell me is it some special ink you use...Go make some jelly for my belly...before the birds and the worms get them and turn them to rot...Can you make cider? There is nothing I love more than a cool glass of cider, sitting at a Creperie in Britanny...may be some other time. Care to join me?

TAPS, I am trying to find a happier medium and balance between blogging
and life myself. But I agree with Absolutely Positive, your time spent photographing and posting these pictures was not wasted, even if there is crab apple jelly to be made. I was thinking of making hay while the sun shone myself the other day, as the days waned and drew towards closing, and I don't even have any hay in sight!

Pat_B, When they get over-ripe, they also draw lots of bees. I got stung once beneath my Mom's crabapple tree helping her out. She was the jelly maker. She always combined crabapples and elderberries into the most wonderful jelly.

About the crabapples...
If you leave them on the tree they will dehydrate a bit and by February, when all other food is snow-covered and can't be reached, the little birds will have something to eat. In case you were feeling guilty about not making crab apple jelly. Returning robins love them.
