Point on, DamonLeigh. I have railed against the Patriot Act and the
Military Commissions Act and the illegal warrantless wiretapping and the extraordinary renditioning. But few read me and only a few care. I wonder how much they'll care, DL, when those jack-booted black-clad men storm into their houses in the middle of the night and secret them away. Bush and his cronies are fascists, donning the cloak of protectors of liberty. Nothing could be further from the truth.

We already put an extraordinary number of our citizens in prison (compared to other countries), often for nonviolent offenses such as drug possession.
This is related to the prison-industrial complex, which creates a financial interest in having more prisoners, so as to justify the construction of more and larger prisons by private firms.
(Such as the Halliburton subsidiary mentioned in the article.) These supposedly "small government" conservatives are continuing and expanding the practice of giving government contracts to politically-favored corporations.
