Artifact- based upon the things I have read about you being bright
and young... (assuming I remembered accurate details there.) If it is nothing you already know about as related to a physical problem it is probably just part of "growing up." When I was younger, (teen or college) I retained EVERYTHING. If you said you had an appointment at 64 Oak St. at 2:20 PM on January 15, 2007, you needed to wear nice shoes, and you should call them the night before between 5PM and 7PM, I would easily be able to tell you every detail of that if you asked me any time before that date. Now, I would retain "has an appointment sometime in January. I think. And something about calling...were they calling him?"
Now I remember different things, rather than EVERY thing. And sometimes I forget things if I don't write them down or mentally post-it note them as important SOON. It still bothers me that I don't, but now I don't think it means I am losing my mind.
Also, not enough sleep can do this...

TV, I have one friend who has an incredible memory...
When we used to hang out a lot, I would call her my "portable memory"
because I would tell her things that I needed to recall and she would
remember it all for me.

Factor, I don't know
I think some of it may have to do with how distracted I am right now. If I concentrate hard enough it gets better.

Artifact, that is worrisome, what you're describing seems more than just
lapses in memory, it's been four days since you last posted. I hope you're doing okay.

I too used to have a flawless memory
Friends hated getting in arguments with me because I could quote previous conversations word for word and bust them when they were wrong. No more. I don't seem to have the gaps you have though. I do use a similar tactic when facing something unpleasant. I just know how quickly time passes, put my head down, barrel through and it almost seems like a snap of the fingers and its over.

I find myself doing the same.
"Don't need this anymore, put it at the back of the memory closet."

hmm is there a medical reason that I am not aware of?
or is it just the normal problems we all have with having so much more to retain as we age that the things we don't need to retain "go."
