- Go to I Refuse To Pay What I Do Not Owe!
I think this happens far too often
Some companies just do not keep their records in order and the first person the blame is the customer instead of first checking with themselves. I once changed banks and paid a last installment for goods cash. I received a phone call from the supplier six months later indicating that I had not paid. I informed that I had the receipt as proof and they should check their records. Fine. Two months later the first lawyers letter arrived. Not only must I know pay the installment, but interest and lawyer fees as well. I contacted the law firm and informed that they could take me to court as I have the receipt in my hand. They would lose and would have to pay my lawyer fees as well as compensate me for time wasted. Eventually they sent a lawyer out to confront me. I showed him the receipt and the case was dropped. I do not understand these people as I had faxed them a copy of the receipt each time they enquired. Made me mad

Sorry for leaving such a long comment. Good luck with your problem and stick to those principles!

Taps justice shall prevail ...one day. Stand strong and proud,
you are innocent and they are wrong, too cowardly to even apologize. scum bags don't deserve your time of day, not even a single breath...such a precious waste of fresh air that would be...

Makes you think there must be a lot of really bad deadbeats
out there if they take such a hard line with good customers.

Yes, Whacky, I would have been very happy, and satisfied with an apology and would probably have continued a certain amount of dealings with them.

It's a shame that they don't even apologize when they were wrong.
Especially when you have proof you paid. You get em!

Taps, the only collection agency I would ever work for is a charity
organisation, not a bunch of crooks like a collection agency. I am still collecting ex-tenant's threatening letters from collection agencies, I throw them in the bin and lie low, and hope they don't go look for me thinking I am the culprit.

I had a collection agency hound me after my divorce for a bill that my ex incurred AFTER the divorce. It took two years to straighten it out but it was finally corrected.

Justi, Don't ever pay them just to get them off of your back. When you finally give in and pay them, it is legally admitting that you were in the wrong all the time and even if you pay it now, it remains as a bad mark on your credit rating.

JanesOpinion, The thing that bothers me is that the person calling is probably only the messenger that I am about to "kill". He is probably some poor soul just trying to hold a job to put bacon on the table for his hungry kids.

Good grief!
I would respond to the original company with a snappy letter demanding an apology before you waste any more of your money on then. But then for that matter, why bother, when it would only be a waste of your time.
And regarding the second call? Whooo baby but I wish I could be a little mouse in the corner eavesdropping on that call.

There is no customer service anywhere anymore. I am sorry this is happening but you go for them and be sure they understand you will not put up with it. That is terrible. I have a thing like that on my credit to this day for $60 at the doctor's office. They fired this person for putting into his pocket some of the payments, acknowledged it and still want me to pay what I paid. I am like you! I paid it Already!!!!!

You should have sued the other company for harrassment...
If a few poeple would sue and win BIG, these companies would stop doing this sort of thing.

LOL, MarieClaire. I don't know if you ever saw the old movie,
