When it comes to reading Fiction here it usually helps to tackle it on a day when you have a large chunk of time available and you also happen to be in calm and patient mood.  I have read a few excellent pieces that seemed worthy of publication.  I think that is why a lot of them disappeared from here almost as fast as they appeared.

Well, Notapoet, you've confirmed my hunch, too, fiction doesn't do well
I admit to being the same way, when I'm on the blog, even with the best of intentions, I can't tear myself away from the comments section long enough to read anything longer than a few graphs.

Fiction didn't come out all that well when I was doing these rankings two and three years ago either.  It seems strange on the surface that a gathering of writers would pay so little attention to fiction.  I think that part of it is the length of most fiction posts.  Typical bloggers don't seem to want to tie up a lot of time in any given post.  Then there is also the fact that a lot of it is simply not very good -- including most of my own.  Good fiction is actually quite difficult to write.

Interesting to note, Notapoet, that Fiction is not in the 100. Strange.
