Nautikos, I appreciate your input.

That is an excellent quote from Goethe.  Thanks for sharing.

I always have some fear when I make any blanket statement about atheists and agnostics, knowing that there are some wonderfully reasoned folk such as yourself within that grouping.  And perhaps you are in the majority.  I don't know -- but thank you for speaking up.

Jane,
although I am an agnostic, as you know, I am convinced that omitting Christian teachings form our schools has had a deleterioud effect. I agree with J. W. v. Goethe (even though he was German, but even Germans can sometimes be correct, lol) when he said: "He who has philosophy also has religion. But he who has no philosophy had better have religion!"  And the overwhelming majority of people have no philosophy whatever, let alone their kids.

Thanks Moxie. That is my goal -- food for thought.

And thanks for stopping by!

TAPS, it is frightening, isn't it? We rationalize violence away as being
caused by lack of education or poverty or whatever.  But I think we neglect the obvious.  Thanks for your thoughts.

What's the matter with me? My typing is way off, as what I meant to say was you give a lot of food for thought, Jane.

You lot of food for thought, Jane.

JanesOpinion, Very sobering thoughts here.  I have been through it all--some personally and some as observer.  I agree with your conclusions.

Thanks Justi for those comments and your memories.
Born in 1967, I missed out on the experiences of which you speak, but really agree with you.

Jane's

I remember all this time. Those making the biggest noise against what you say are those who did not experience the good of the 50's. Farm boys would drive a truck to school, leave a loaded gun in the rack, windows down, stay in class all day and go hunting after school. Nobody ever thought of stealing it or using it against other people.

There was no use of the F word, there was not any bullying to any large degree. If it went on it could be stopped by the school authorities.

When I went to school there was daily prayer. Nobody expected you to pray if your family didn't nobody asked you. Those who wanted to just prayed. Did anyone think how successful the war in Iraq was as long as there were day and night prayer vigils going on in the beginning?

Look at the countries who took God out of their lives and see what has happened. People can say what ever they want but history will show The God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jesus is the only earthy success, respect for life, humane care for others that I have found. There are people who claim to be Christians and do terrible atrocities, but if you really know your Bible you will know they are claiming something they do not have, they are no Christians. Those people going to funerals doing ugly and vulgar things in the name of Christianity are not following the Bible, just their version and doing their father's business, Satan.

GREAT POST!

Jane, you have said it all and very well! The fall of every great nation
had its beginnings in the denial of God first, followed by the destruction of family through death of infants, children and elderly. From there the culture of death over life, proceeded toward total destruction and downfall. Germany is a good example! A soldier during WW II escaped a prison camp and carried back to the US a sheet of paper containing the 15 steps which led to its destruction. We are on that same path! God help us! I am gald you like the St. Francis prayer, Thanks for your comment. Keep Writing,  faholo
