I suppose whatever we choose to label it, God or some vast universe, it still all remains out of our control, and I think that is probably a good thing. Me in charge of the Universe or myself...Nah, only very minimially...I'll just watch

As much as we cherish the "control" the modern conveniences of society provides, it's all an illusion. In many ways we're still frightfully dependent on happenstance. Life is barely contained chaos, totally unpredictable. I think this is one of the reasons some embrace Christianity. The idea of an all-knowing, all-powerful being that loves us, watches over us, and guides us according to His master plan dulls what could be the paralyzing fear from being completely at the mercy of forces beyond our control.
