Oh my word. I'm speechless. This is appalling.

It was sickening. How could he do this, the coward?

I talked to the little girl's grandmother a couple of times. She knew this day was coming. Charles took delight in terrifying them. I'm not so sure I'd have sat back and endured it.

I think there is a sickness that has taken hold.

Charles left a suicide tape behind. The families of the little girl wanted it, but the police said it was far too graphic to give to them.

It's hard to know what to feel. Even today, as I sit here and think on it, the regrets are many.

I'm sad to admit to its veracity. I wish it were fiction.

This is the part I had trouble with. If she would've only told me...but, I would probably be sitting in jail right now and not have this wonderful family.

I think the flaws in Charles' character were evident in the way he handled his relationships. It is sad when innocent children get drawn in. It was surely the worst tragedy I'd ever witnessed.

Not your writing the story.

Only God knows the depths of hurt some suffer through
in this life. Why do people do what they do? God alone has the answer. This reminds me of the interview of the assistant coroner on the news tonight, she is the person who had to determine the number of wounds each of the Amish children sustained yesterday. She could barely contain her tears as she spoke. God bless you and help you to cope with the memories of the story avant-garde. Keep writing, faholo

What a terrible thing for anyone to witness!
It is terrible how evil spreads and harms so many in different ways. Who can understand the human mind?!

Avant-Garde, the first part of your story was on my mind last night.

I thought I knew, roughly, how it was going to end, but this is more horrible than what I'd imagined, he killed his own daughter, too.  Then committed "suicide by cop" I can't say as I blame the police for not allowing him medical care.

I am stunned at what human beings are capable of, and what some have had to bear witness to.  OH, my God.  I am so sorry that you were involved in any way, and now have to deal with this, that Michelle's friend has to bear the scars of witnessing this.  I remember what I think was a quote from Elizabeth I, to Mary Queen of Scots "May God forgive you, for I cannot".  Unbelievable.

I hope that  writing this out brings you some relief, ultimately, even if it may be painful now.  You've done a masterful job of describing the scene, and laying it out.  I can only imagine what you must be feeling.  Take care, Avant.

Not sure if this is an actual story. Given such horrific and selfish acts hit the pages of our newspapers or our TV screens almost every day, it’s certainly believable.  What do we do when we hear of such thing!?!?

How terribly tragic. How can anyone not believe there is a Satan. How could a human being shoot a little child? Only a possessed person could do such a thing. I am so sorry this happened. I am sorry it was close to you. I don't think anyone could have stopped this. He was going to do it one way or another.

PostSmile!  So very sad! My daughter recently had to attend ( as police security) the trial of a man who had gone to his wife's place of employment and doused her with gasoline and then set her on fire.

A very disturbing story
Is it based on fact? I suppose with the senseless occurrences all around us it could very well be.

posted by Tanga on October 4, 2006 at 7:49 AM | link to this | reply

This sounds very like an event
that made front pages and the six o'clock news in Seattle a couple years ago - a high-ranking police officer, frustrated by a hostile divorce situation, caught his wife and kids in the parking lot of a drugstore and killed them all. There's clearly no logic to explain such an act.  This tragedy led to a change in policy in the area's police departments. Anger management, counseling, methods for finding a level again after dealing with deadly situations and confrontations with bad guys came into play.  I hope they find a way to keep our heroes from turning into monsters because of the daily battleground police must deal with.
