littlemspickles,
thanks for dropping in. Well, in this case the sorting out is an ongoing and rather lengthy and ultimately boring business, to be endured only if one keeps a sense of humour about it, and even then only if one has no choice...

lol - i know it wasn;t a funny situation
but the way you told your tale was!!!! did anything get sorted out in the end??

muser,

Thanks for dropping in! I hope the worst of your move is over and that you have overcome your physical problems as well.

Yes, my encounter with the insurance companies has its bizarre aspects. And unfortunately it ain't over yet...

I am very impressed with Max's skills! Having been to sea myself, in all kinds of weather, and always firmly (if swayingly ) planted on deck or in my berth, I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to land a fighter on a heaving deck! My hat is off to the guys who can do that!

Nautikos, I know this wasn't intended as a stand up comedy routine...
piece, but really...this could make HBO! I'm so glad to hear you are out of your cast, and moving around again.

I also had to laugh at your not being a very good automobile passenger! When Max was my front seat passenger when I used to drive, he, the Marine Aviator who landed fighter jets on aircraft carriers in the dead of night in stormy seas always looked like he couldn't decide whether to scream or wind his watch!...something about control needs comes to mind. LOL! We
have our moments too, but when I was undergoing an I.V. at the Doc's office last week, he was my hands and wrote a poem that suddenly appeared while I was being mesmerized by watching that slow drip make it's way down into my arm.

Justi,
you're right, it is bizarre...

Nautikos
That was the most bizarre thing I ever heard. Tell me why people who liven in the United States could hate it as they apparently by the way they write.

.Dave
thanks for dropping in. Do you mean to tell me that you have a similarly bizarre system?

That was like an excerpt from Catch 22. It would funny if only it wasn't so

real for you and familiar for me.

Oh My! This was interesting to read and hard to make any sense of the Insurance logic.

Nana,
'rabbit hole' is a great expression for it! Mind if I borrow that?

blackcat,
I agree, it's totally ridiculous! Mind you, they tell you that your rates will not go up if the other driver is legally at fault (which is the case here!) I'm waiting for my next renewal notice, which should arrive some time in November. And there'd better not be an increase...

posted by Nautikos on September 30, 2006 at 9:34 AM | link to this | reply

What? How ridiculous!
Sounds like you'd be better off if you had NO insurance.... how stupid.  Around here, the insurance company of person at fault pays.  Why should your premiums go up for making claims for something that wasn't even your fault?

Mari-am
thanks for dropping in. I guess insurane is a necessity everywhere, but does it have to be so convoluted and stupid?

TAPS,

first of all, I am really happy to hear that Kristofer is on the mend and well cared for! From one cyclist to another, a big !

As far as your reluctance to get back on the bike is concerned, I can certainly understand that, and it really wouldn't be a good idea to do it if you feel didn't feel good about it.

On the other hand, I take the position that I'll be damned if I let this accident change my life, and I am chafing at the bit and can't wait for getting my doctor's ok to get out there again...

Wiley,

I was actually thinking of you when I wrote this, knowing that you are a cyclist. Be careful out there!

And if I had the time, I wouldn't mind taking on the insurance companies, although in this case I'd have to take on the government as well. Dunno if I'm quite up for that. I do engage in a bit of guerilla warfare though - I mean, my wife could have filled in those damn forms...

Tanga,
insurance companies employ people specializing in turning simplicity into complexity! And they own paper mills and huge printing establishments to produce the forms they use - it's called 'vertical integration'...

Rumored,
you were one of 'them'? I'm happy to see that you got out of it with your soul intact...

Nautikos, What a mess.  After what happened to you and what happened to my step-grandson, I will never again sit astride a bike unless I am on the KATY Trail.   By the way, Kristofer is out of ICU and has been transferred to a different hospital where they have a wonderful physical therapy department.   He is going to have to learn some things all over again.     This was very interesting to read.

OMG!! Thanks for that lesson my friend. I think I'm going to move back to Québec. lol Seriously, we ought to get together, and just take on the Auto Ins and Hydro. Loved your comment on the NDP. lol I think in any future elections I am going Green Party. That is all that makes sense to me now. Get well buddy and have a happy weekend.

naut, oh my gosh!..Your post brings back memories of my years in

insurance (I was the Mad Hatter at times)...no one mentioned your homeowners insurance covering your bike repairs?? Or did I miss that?..it's all in the name "No Fault" - the only province that has true no fault insurance is B.C. (at least it was..who knows now??)

Man do I miss insurance...not!
