You are so right! I felt so free when I read how God regarded sin which leads to guilt which leads to all those things you must do to earn contrition and gain favor once again. All based on conditions. When your self-esteem is built on what others think of you or more specifically, what your perception is of how others see you. It's too bad that so many people are taught to love themselves conditionally - how can you love yourself when you do this or that - it sets them up to look for conditional love as well.
