Whacky...We need to do something more quickly than that-
This latest general was quoted as saying that Rumsfeld needed to be replaced immediately. Every day he's in charge, it costs more innocent lives.

I hear you, Passionflower. It upset me, too. I was going to leave anyway
go to the post office, but I left right after that. I was mentally kicking myself the whole way for falling into that old trap.

I'm afraid so, Passionflower, back in the day,
we've had differences of opinion before. I agree, it's pointless, and I'm sorry if I upset you, which is that last thing I want to do. I have my opinons, and he has his, and we are just not going to see eye to eye. If he comments after me, addressing mine, I'll just let you deal with it.

I guess many of us have been around here too long and have 'history' with a few too many. Corbin acted like he thought he and I were "old rivals" or something but he's got me mixed up with somebody else.

Katray....I couldn't agree more.
We MUST NOT dismiss these claims by decorated men of war.
"Blind Loyalty" in this situation would be assinine and unforgiveable. We MUST attempt to uncover the truth for the sake of those who are risking their lives at this very moment for our liberty.
Anything else would be a betrayal toward our soldiers.

Avant...I think my most important CLUE -
Is my own "gut feeling" about Rumsfeld.
I think Bush has convinced himself that what he's doing is for the greater good, but I'm almost certain he orchestrated the war simply in order to gain control of Iraq.

Interesting debate Passionflower
Always good for democracy when issues can be discussed in a reasonable and respectful atmosphere. If the statements of military commanders who have actually been in battle and know the realities of the situation in Iraq up close and personal are dismissed without deeper thought and consideration, that sounds like blind loyalty imo. Thank God these men are willing to shed whatever fealty to the administration they are expected to hold. The safety and condition of the troops should be a priority over politics and they are expressing that concern. My thoughts - Thanks again for posting this.

Well I don't know quite what to say about you post except it is like Blanche said and opinion. However I love D.Rumsfeld and despite what someone may or may not post about him...he is one hell of a work horse and extremely qualified for his job. I admire the man and often wonder if anyone who writes about him knows how great his commitment is...But that is my opinion and quite a bit of the military that work for him...

I am intitled to have my opinions, too...and to do so free of your constant sniping.......I am sure it's disheartening for someone to see their comment section turned into a mud pit........I was kind enough out of respect to Passion to just agree to disagree....and you have to chime in to start something.

Corbin, John Murtha is an esteemed officer, and a man of honor and
conscience. The junior bush-league freshman female senator who attempted to do the hatchet job on his reputation, is out of office. John Murtha still has his Senate Armed Forces Committee seat. His reputation and integrity will survive these snide canards your group keep trying to tarnishing him with.
Anyone with the integrity, conscience and balls to speak up, gets the same treatment: address the facts please and leave the hatchet job on others reputations out of it. Facts speak for themselves.

Their are plenty of Murtha's out there......who are willing to make a statement because they have an agenda. Or perhaps a book deal is in the works.......I don't know if that the case with these guys or not......perhaps they have the best of intentions. I just happen to disagree.......am I not allowed to do that Blanche?

Passionflower, I saw an article in the paper today on this.
Two retired Army Major Generals and one retired Marine, (I can't remember his rank, Colornel?) testified in front of Congress on their opinion, based on their combined military experience in Iraq and training, which when you think about it, who would know better than these men what the situation is in Iraq?
I trust their judgment, they have no reason to lie, and I hope their concern is more for the safety of the troops than for any political advantage.
I love the fact that we have freedom of expression, but I can't say that Rumsfeld had anything to do with that. In fact, if he had his way, I'm sure we'd probably all be put away for "treason". I love my country, it's the ones who are running it I have a problem with.

Great post Passionflower - I'm very glad you carried this subject on, needs
to be known by as many Americans as possible. What can we do? Used to be getting in touch with your Congress people had some effect, but the majority of them are now so out of touch with those they are supposed to be representing that it's a futile effort. I'm hoping the elections in November will bring sweeping changes and Rumsfeld will be investigated by the legislative branch. That would reveal enough about his mishandling of the wars to give the administration no choice but to accept his resignation. If that doesn't happen, time for those of us who still care about this country and our soldiers to refer to Afzal's suggestion. Seriously.
