We could analyze the whys and hows of it to death, nonconformist.

We could come up with countless theories.  What we need is a solution.  Preferably a preventive solution, one that thwarts the manifestation of such heinous acts before the are actualized.

These things are so terrible that we end up thinking Why? How?....

...the human mind is such a terrible mystery. But I do have one theory on this. I think that many people may be capable of such things, who knows why? Maybe what is stopping them is the sheer awefulness of these unspeakable acts of cruelty which they must realise. Then someone else does it and they think "Ah, it's not so bad, someone else has done it, now I can do it too and I won't feel such a monster." Something like that. If the phenomeneon could be understood maybe it could be stopped; but it seems beyond comprehension!

I agree with that, ladychardonnay. I entertained thoughts of becoming an

officer at one time, but realized that my temperament ran more toward the justice side of things.  There will be no justice in this case.
