Tonysit response
Dear T.:
Yeah, and as the late, great Winston Churchill famously observed, "Democracy is the world's worst form of government ... except for all the others."
Thanks for the observation, my friend.

Sorry, Girlfriend, you're already enlisted
Dear B.:
You signed up for the Alice's Resturant Anti-Massacree Movement (based on a line in Arlo Guthrie's Newport Folk Festival presentation of his 23-minute magnum opus talking blues and consequent 1969 film, Alice's Resturant: if you're not hip to it, lemme know and I'll send the lyrics ASAP ... they're a politically wise hoot and a half) and our own Shock Troopers in the Service of Evolution about 10 years ago ... we just forgot to tell ya.
Yer eternal buddy (and commanding officer),
Lieutenant Commander Angus MacDorroh, "Pride of the Queen's Marines"

That was quite an analytical and thought-provoking piece of the sad state of poltical affairs and the garbage it can offer to its gullible public in the garb of doing public good. Excellent post friend !

Hi Rarmcwa
The sad truth is that democracy spawns demagogues. It's a popularity contest, write or wrong (sic) like Blogit, ha ha.

Okay, MG just explained it's an Arlo Guthrie song, Rarmcwa,
The draft board wouldn't take the singer because he ws a litterbug, so he decided to start a movement, by singing Alice's Restaurant in the Draft Board office.

Rarmcwa, remind me what "Alice's Restaurant" is?
and, yes, count me in. I'm done with the blog politics. I ain't got that kind of time or energy. I want to put it somewhere it'll make a difference. I can't hang out and chat today, MG is off and we've got to get going, but it's always nice chatting with you. (He's in there listening to Ed Schulz now).

Thank you, Ma'am
As stated on someone's blog comment page recently, I'm out to start the Alice's Restaurant Anti-Massacre Movement, right here at Blogit. Thanks for joining up with the Blogit Brigade of Shock Troopers In the Service of Evolution.
It's a damn dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it.

Rarmcwa, I like the phrase, "pragmatic idealist" with core values
Those with core values don't blow with every political or popular wind. You're right, governing is not a hot or sexy political campaign slogan, but in the final analysis, what is a government for? "To provide for the common defense," (forgive me if I don't have that amendment memorized)...to do things that single or small groups of individuals can't: create freeways, electrify rural areas, monitor and regulate monopolies like the cable or telephone systems.
And, yes, I'd like to see the vitriolic rhetoric and demon-exorcising rhetoric end and some common sense restored. Well said.
