Alfie, I don't know where I was when you posted this, but here I am now. I really enjoyed reading this, It seemed that I was right there with you through it all because you made it seem so real. What a great Dad you are, and a very fine writer.

This is great. Tell you friend to audition again and again to different cities if he can afford it, otherwise keep auditioning next year and the following year. Don't give up!

alf--
nice post, I enjoyed your account of this. it's really a brutal process for the contestants and getting the golden ticket must be like being able to find that proverbial needle. but he did his best, and that's all that matters!! perhaps by next year he won't even need American Idol!!

Talion...
Thanks for commenting. The contestants eventually get to Paula, Randy, and Simon but only after several rounds of eliminations. Yes, they have to let a few clowns through to make "good TV". As far as the look...I think my son had it, but then I am his dad, lol.

This confirmed several suspicions I've held about the show:
- The "celebrity" judges don't listen to everyone's audition.
- Those that are truly awful are allowed through in order to be humiliated on national TV.
- A certain "look" is required for the contestants, which possibly supercedes talent.
