I've been gone for 6 months and upon my return what do I find but folks all up in arms over what you say.......still! Seems to me none of us in this human condition of ours can be quite sure of wheter there is or is not a literal place called hell or heaven that we shall we assigned to for eternity based on our choice of religious beliefs while here. And since none of us can be absolutely sure, can't we leave open the possibility of either/or ? THe things we cannot know for sure are simply beliefs, not knowns...and one can believe one thing and another can believe its opposite. I don't believe folks are goign to die adn go to heaven and eat plates of grapes and screw a designated number of virgins, but some people do, and I don't need to convince them otherwise, nor am I threatened by the fact they believe that way. I'm not threatened by their beliefs, but rather their actions that stem from those beliefs. If they want to kill me to get their then their belief has gone mad, and taken me with it.  I also don't believe that only 1% of teh worlds population shall see God. The key word seems to be belief to me. Keep stirring the water...i guess

you think YOU are in hell?!!!

think about the Rams -- we have all the media here in St. Louis thinking they are the greatest things since chopped cheese because they won the Super Bowl and made the playoffs a few years back, and yet they still play very sloppy football, especially with the new q'back, Marc Bulger, who isn't even anywhere near Kurt Warner.

The high scorer is the field goal kicker -- go figure.

i believe the scripture intimates that our lifetime is "hell".  It is a continual purging fire.  The dross and unusable will be burnt away, leaving stone fit for the temple of the self.

it is certain Christian bloggers who seem pretty sure (from certain intimations -- and some outright blatant statements to that fact) that I am destined for the nether regions.

but it does seem, according to their interpretation of things, that less than 1% of the entire world's population will enjoy the "pleasures" of Heaven.

I mean, I really don't like crowds, but it does seem that it will be a happier and more diverse crowd that will not.

Xeno-x,

To me, those who judge others and think themselves above it all, are pharisees like the ones Jesus so often had to deal with.  If, instead of judging others, they would love others, as Jesus did, they might actually find that they, themselves, are suddenly on a higher spiritual plain.

You have so many good points which you expertly display.  Another great post.

thank you for your comment, The_TAO_of_Drew
I think there are a few of us who anticipate with joy an existence away from those "bound for Heaven" types.

actually that would be heaven.

then where are they going?

What a place this Heaven must be...
Why is it that, almost to a man/woman, those who smuggly insist that others are going to this "hell" and they are going to thier "heaven" are people we would plead and beg not to have to spend eternity with.  I will gladly join in your hell party and imagine that those in this "heaven" would regret their eternal placement.  Better to be hated by the disgusting than to spend an eternity in their prescence.

Xeno-x - there is definitely a clique
One that only comments on my posts when they can point out a typo or occasionally to demonstrate the blatant ignorance fostered by the herd mentality for me. And I agree that you hit close to home, especially considering that I am viewed as an outsider on 2 fronts. Nationality and beliefs. There is another aspect as well that is a key element in political affiliations. Left meets right quite often. Not only are some of these folks religiously brainwashed, it seems that they are attempting to start another civil war based solely on political partisanship.

excuse the egotistical answer

but maybe my writings hit pretty close to home.

i do take on some of these people personally and there does seem to be a clique of allied minds.

Xeno-x - you may be the new damnation record holder
I think that you may even be more villified than me in some circles but I still don't get it. A nice guy like yourself asking a few tough questions gets this kind of reaction from other believers? Some people are no more attuned to reality than gerbils running the wheel.
