I live in Brooklyn, in the section known as Brooklyn Heights. It's not one of these skeevy places people think of when they think of Brooklyn--it's actually nice. The area is known for its Victorian buildings--the apartment building I live in is in fact one of those. Its very convenient to everything--the subway, Starbucks (:-D), a laundromat, grocery store, etc. I also live several blocks from a promenade that gives you a view of lower Manhattan, Staten Island, the Statue of Liberty, and, on a clear day, New Jersey. The view is beautiful, especially at night!

I live in a beautiful little town. It is a peninsula out into a beautiful lake, around the lake are mountains. We have a large Arts council, in the summer they provide us with a weekly free concert running from classical to country. We are an old town in the sense of old in America. Pre Civil War. Lots of yachts and lots of money. There is lots of pain, hunger and haughtiness. We have an overload of churches and banks. We have to go out of town to find a fine restaurant, but that is only 45 minutes one way, 2 hrs from Atlanta and Nashville, 1.5 hours from B'ham. But before you go out of town to eat you have to drive only 20 or so minutes up on the mountains surrounding the lake and there poverty and ignorance is in great abundance. That is being addressed now but it took some time.

I live in a village (town less than 5000 people) in Ohio, the Ohio River runs along the edge of town. The people here are primarily senior citizens, the jobs are primarily service jobs, and the town has as many bars as it does churches. We have to leave town to go to a mall, a restaurant, a theater, or even a bowling alley. The town itself is not very exciting, but the people are very nice and friendly. If there's more than three cars at a traffic light, we call that a traffic jam.
It's actually very nice and peaceful. I like it, except that I get very bored sometimes.
Oh, Passion, we do have a McDonald's! lol

We have a well for drinking water, then a venetian spring that is all natural, and our pond is totally spring fed :) The air is more oxygenated too, healthier to breathe...lol...I'd never fare well in a city...

Tanga, thanks for sharing about your town/city/area....
I think that sometimes in countries like your own, they don't collect taxes to keep things maintained...or if they do collect taxes for road/park maintenance, corrupt officials keep the money instead of spending it to keep things clean and maintained.
Of course, we don't have any lions or elephants running around loose here....LOL!

Lovely pictures
The buildings look so clean and well maintained. I live on a farm. My nearest neighbour is 3Km away. A rural village is 5Km away. The nearest city is Lusaka. It is 25Km away. It is dirty and not maintained. We have two shopping "malls" that are actually extremely small when compared to even those in South Africa.

I live in the country, in a community that was once a sizable town but was destroyed twice by fire. This was before my time. The town had two major industries: logging and prostitution. When these two occupations were no longer viable the land was farmed. Now it is being developed for housing. The nearest sizable town that absorbed all these other little towns has these two incredibly stupid looking statues that are the most photographed in the nation. In spite of which there is also a thriving arts community.

Great pics luv, great idea. I live in Pembroke, ON, an old lumber town. The big item here for years, was wood matches.
I came here to work for Eddy Match which is now closed. We have McDonald's, Tim Horton's, (4) WalMart, Home Depot, and a fair sized mall.
We are just across a small bridge from the Ptrovince of Québec where I was born, and lived most of my life. The two provinces are seperated by the Ottawa river.
My favourite pastime is walking the boardwalk by the river, it's where Joycie and I used to wlk together.
We do have 4 movie theatres in the mall, so that's a plus too.
I would say it's about 25% French speaking here.

I loved the pics, passionflower
our town was once a main street with a few side streets, and a couple of unincorporated divisions a couple miles down the road. We live in one of those. When we came here, there were only 1200 people living here. Now, urban sprawl has victimized the surrounding farmland. We finally got the chicago-bound train to extend its line two mor stations to include our town, but to get it we had to allow a train yard that lights up the night sky with an orange glow, obliterating scores of stars we used to see at night, because there were no streetlights around here. In spite of the development, I still love it here. We now have a Curves in the old post office (which was moved to the New Post Office about ten years ago when the sprawl started), and i like to rush hoome and go there to work out, instead of going to one closer to work.

I live in Detroit
but on the outskirts. The city line is my street. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood with lots of brick and sided bungalows. It's an older neighborhood. The best thing about it is my neighbors. They are ok for the most part, friendly and helpful.
Downtown Detroit is full of amazing things to see like the Detroit Science Center and the Ren Cen (Renaissance Center), Joe Louis Arena and the Ambassador Bridge, which leads to Canada.

I hope these links give you a little of the beauty of Detroit.
I was driving through neighborhoods the other day just a few miles from me, and the houses were burned, boarded up, trash everywhere, doors hanging wide open and people hanging out everywhere. It is amazing the difference in a couple of miles.
