I can imagine how you felt, mneme.  I was shocked when we were told where we were, and I think I was expecting too much on viewing the site.  There were no construction workers at all when we went.

You describe so well the effect of viewing that site.  Visiting in 2002, just one year after, I too was struck by the ordinariness of the construction site, a great square of activity with diggers and site huts, arc lamps in the gathering dusk and workers going about their business in hard hats.  I couldn't look at the photo gallery, still crowded with images of the missing, and it was impossible not to be moved.

John
I agree with the others.. your writing is so descriptive and does place the reader where the horror took place.

I was crying my eyes out as I watched the people jumping and falling, word, but the thing that caused me the most disbelief was the way the towers collapsed floor upon floor, like toy skyscrapers.

John, Thanks for sharing that.

The thing that brought tears to my eyes and still does when I think about it, was watching those people jump.  What a choice to have to make.

As always, you managed to add a touch of humor in there with Ell. Good thing that bull has no feelings, else he'd have been limping around in pain for a while.

Thank you Dave.  You surprised me with the adjective 'precision,' as I think my writing is all over the place.  I hope you don't mean 'clinical?'

The experience gave me the chills, Whacky.

Very carefully written, John. You nail the mixed feelings and describe the scene perfectly.

The bull reminds me of a sculpture I saw recently. I might dig out the photo I took. Perhaps it's the same artist.

You took us there with this piece. I didn't feel chills, but I know exactly what Whacky is saying - you put us right on the spot and enabled us to have our own responses to the scenes through your precision of writing.

Cheers
