If I were to witness the destruction and suffering these warplanes caused, I'm sure their romanticism would be lost on me. For many, myself included, they symbolized a display and exacting of revenge right after 911.

Thank you. That's very kind of you to say.

I love to watch airplanes, especially at close range.

Avant-Garde, that's always been my feeling when watching them,
or any other military exercises, that if as a group, we put all that single-minded determination, resources, and collective will into pursuing lfie-enhancing goals, we'd be miles ahead.  I think there are something really awe-inspriing about the power, precision, and energy of the planes themselves, but when the Blue Angels were here for a week in July, and I was downtown, I could see in everyone's faces, and felt myself, that the power had been misused.

My love of airplanes has never diminished; but, I think I'd have been turned off by the objectives and the brainwashing the military uses. I think that is the main reason I never pursued it.

You know, I've never thought about it before, but I've never witnessed the horror these aircraft are capable of inflicting. I've always watched them practice, without firing their weapons.

They are extraordinary technological feats. It's too bad they are used for killing.

Avant--you have a FUND of info & experiences.Less of a westerner/whatever..

I have reservations about these massive machines:

1. They can be built for helping humanity, but theones you describe are for attack (I know some call it defense. Okay)

2. Even with massive ships, I tend to think about the brid and animal life, especially dolphins and whales, that are distrubed, even traumatized and killed by our massive Aircraft Carriers. Just minor reservations, that are an aside to your otherwise good contributions and good heart. Shalom, Neil

Avant -
Sounds like one of my trips to the outskirts of the airport at the end of one of the busier runways.

You described the scene and the feelings beautifully. I used to lie in the grass by the runway in places like Rabat, Morocco and Gros Tenquin France, 1955/56/57 and  watch our Canadian ,made F-86 Mark 6's  swoop upwards so quickly. I wished I had studied more math and been a pilot myself, but alas, I did not and became an AFrame Tech3. I worked in salvage and mobile repair as well.

I know the feeling, Avant Garde,
I've never been closer to an F16, than watching the Blue Angels aerial ballet every year, but I can visualize the inside of the cockpit so easily.  Why, I don't know.
