The first thing to ask yourself is, 'What's my objective?' If it is indeed losing weight, then the solution is mostly outside the gym in your diet. The exercising boosts the metabolism to burn the weight off faster. The toning is an added benefit.
Now, I must tell you if you spend a lot of time on weights, you will increase muscle mass, and actually gain weight. Muscle weighs more than fat. I keep telling my wife that the scales are only one tool, and a very inaccurate one at that. Don't pin all your hopes on your body weight.
You can augment your cardio with some resistance training, and boost the toning. It's not an exact science, and everyone responds differently. There are, however, certain rules that must be followed if results are desired.
Do not fret over the complexity of it all. You will lose the real benefit: to meditate on taking care of your wonderful and intricate body.

I am trying to lose weight, Avant, and get toned,
I want to lose about 20-25 lbs.. I have not been back to the gym since we joined, and it's a waste, but I don't know what I'm doing. .

One quick question, Avant Garde,
In the gym, (I'm going to try this again). After the warmup cardio, what's the best place to start at? Legs, abs, whatever, on the machines?

Funny, I had that same thought, Avant Garde, I like what Mark Twain said,
about journalists, their job is to "comfort the afflicted and affflict the comfortable". I feel a little of that same desire.

My dad died in '89, and it was the first time I had gotten it out at all. It was a very powerful experience.

It was a surreal event. I don't think anyone really absorbed the enormity of it for quite some time.

I think it was a needed wake-up call for America. Even though many suffered and died from this tragedy, we have been far too comfortable.

I completely agree...it's very sad when these tragedies occur.
But it was definitely a much needed wake up call. God bless America. And thanks for your hard work.

Avant-garde, 9/11 was the first time I ever flew my brother's coffin flag. He had passed away in 1965 and his flag had remained a triangle until that day in 2001. He was an Air Force Veteran and, as we all are, he would have been so horrified at what was brought about by airplanes on that day.

Avant-Garde,
Terrorism is fear, fear of death. Remove the fear of death, it has no hold. The dead have their honor and due respect. To live honorably is to defeat terrorism.
