ariel,
a superb post, even if I disagree with your last sentence. I suspect that, for a variety of reasons (FLIGHTPATH mentioned several), the Islamo-Fascist lot is more dangerous than the 20th-century variety of fascism. I do hope I am wrong, of course...

Ariel, You are so right in comparing the intensity of fear in 1941, and now after 9/11. It is, however, different and more pervasive in that terrorists use world communications, including internet, to create a constant drumbeat of hate and fear. (I also lost friends during WW 11, killed in Europe and in the Pacific area.) Now, as then, the struggle for freedom will be long and tedious.

A great post. Thank you. Although 1941 was before my time, I often think of how that era affected my family and my life.
