RiFDaws, I almost did that.
I.e. put the sign back.  Except that I had an energetic dog, a bag of poo in hand . . . .  One can always think of excused, eh?

Janes, this is indeed strange..I would have just gone out and out the
sign back up myself...maybe the people in this particular house think a fallen sign is a bad sign ?(no pun intended)

whacky, my darling auld mutt no longer walks me.
She is tired, and I'm the one now who motivates her.  But I love her to bits, and she will always be such a good pal, even though our walks are becoming slower and slower. . . . (But we still go twice a day!)

blackcat, you may have a point.
I have been lazy before, and little mattered, but I prefer being industrious and doing my best to keep things tidy . . . It takes all sorts to make the world go round, eh?

OK babe rocks, are you telling me I'm too anal?
So life is a little more simple with a few unanswered questions?  OK.  I 'spect so.

Justi, I'm with you. But maybe it's as Pat B observed?
Although, that said, I live near the high school, and kids who walk to school tend to drop all sorts of trash in my front yard.  So twice a week at least I'm out there picking it up.  I believe it's called pride of ownership . . . .

Pat B, I loved your comment and you are so danged right!

But what of Saturdays?  The lawn does appear to be mowed every now and then, so does that mean the owner mowed the lawn, pulled a few weeds, saw the sign and was going to move it but decided to put the lawn mower away first, then discovered how tired and thirsty he was, so went inside for a cold one, fell asleep in front of the TV, awakened, hungry, ate supper, watched more TV, realized he forgot to do something but cannot recall what it was, so ambled off to bed - with sign still in front yard under bushes.

Sort of like that?

You know how it is...

you come home after a hard day's work, loaded with shopping bags and groceries to put away. You see the stupid sign in your bushes again and you think "I have to get out there and take care of that." Then you put away the cans of soup, put the veggies in the drawer, throw out the black soupy bag of something that's gone bad in the vegetable wilter, mix up a meat loaf and put it in the oven, drop a load of clothes into the washer. In the back of your mind there's something nagging, something you forgot to do, but you can't think what the heck it is.

Then you drag the kid away from the video game and listen to him whine about the meat loaf, you stack the dishwasher and wipe down the counters and put the wet clothes into the dryer, sit with a second cup of coffee while you go through the day's junk mail. And there's something nagging that you can't put your finger on, but you put the envelopes and stuff into the recycling bin and fold the dry clothes and watch the last half of "Law & Order" before you head for the shower. As you lay your head on the pillow you remember what it was that you were supposed to do, but you're not going outside in your jammies to get it.

Next morning you drag the kid out, make him eat a slice of toast and rush out the door to drop him at school, and you notice the stupid white sign in the bushes but you don't have time right now...

Sometimes a personis happier if everything doesn't have to make sense.  Because it often doesn't.

The strange things we see while walking our dogs!

In my case sometimes I think he is walking me!

Jane's that is an odd one. It appears the owners may be a bit difficult
to deal with. I can't figure this whole thing. Weird. LOL
