IMHO There's a difference between the Reagan era when the lies piled up like drifts in a blizzard and we feared paper tigers and shadow puppets. These days we recognize the lies for what they are -- but we either don't give a damn because our heads are so far up our own business, or we feel helpless to do anything to correct the situation.
If all politicians are liars, and if they all say their goal is to bring the power back to the people, and it keeps happening for as long as anybody can remember, then our logical choice for good mental health is to ignore politics. We watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and Bill Maher (sp?) or stand-up comics and we laugh about things -- one of those old survival techniques -- instead of crying or running screaming out into traffic. And we know this is dangerous, that we should do something. But what? Talk to our friends about it until they think we're nuts? Write letters to our elected reps? (yeah, right) Letters to the editor? Depend on the media (laughing bitterly as I ask this one)?
Organize a grassroots group? Become a target for the big Blue Machine? I guess I'll just do what I always do -- keep track of their comings and goings, and come election day -- vote!
