Tabloids
One of the best lessons I learned at the U of MD, College of Journalism was in an editing class. The teacher had us keep track of 10 newspapers (using the term loosely). We tracked them side by side to see what went on the front page, inside, what seemed important, etc.
I had NEVER bought a tabloid in my life, but the Enquirer was one of the ones we had to include. I went out of the store with the thing immediately stuffed in a paper bag. You would have thought I was buying some sort of contraband the way I passed it across the counter, then beat feet out of the place.
Even funnier, I few years later I was in line in the grocery store, and there was another edition, staring up at me. It is quite possibly the SINGLE best front page I've ever seen. The main headline said: "Plant People Invade the Earth." Directly underneath it was the headline: "CBS Distorts the News."
